As a foundational science department within the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, the Department of Medical Physics provides thorough education in diagnostic and therapeutic medical physics as well as health physics. Earning an MS degree from this department demonstrates academic excellence in one of North America's premier medical physics programs. Graduates gain qualifications for teaching and research roles in academic institutions, government labs, or medical and nuclear technology sectors. They also meet the requirements for medical physics residency programs, paving the way for clinical certification.
The Clinical/Research track caters to PhD candidates pursuing the Clinical Pathway. These students earn an MS degree upon completing mandatory courses and passing the PhD qualifying exam. Alternatively, students may graduate with an MS degree (without pursuing a PhD) by finishing required coursework and either submitting a master's thesis or passing the qualifying examination. This program holds CAMPEP accreditation.
