The Scandinavian Studies program enables students to explore Nordic literature, folklore, history, and culture through both original languages and English translations. In collaboration with other departments, we provide instruction in Scandinavian languages, history, cultural traditions, social structures, gender studies, artistic expressions, mythology, and folk traditions.
The program also prepares students for advanced degrees, offering pathways to MA programs in Scandinavian philology, literature, or regional studies, and PhD programs focusing on Scandinavian literature, philology, or folklore. We highly recommend spending junior year abroad in a Nordic nation, with various exchange opportunities available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and other locations.
