MESALC's interdisciplinary MA program is designed for graduate students pursuing advanced study in Middle Eastern or South Asian languages alongside comprehensive regional expertise. Our graduates often leverage this degree as preparation for doctoral programs or to gain qualifications for careers in government and NGOs. Similar to our East Asian and European Studies counterparts, this program prioritizes linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding. Our goal is to equip students with the ability to comprehend these regions from local perspectives. Participants select either Middle Eastern or South Asian studies as their concentration, paired with a regional language (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Hindi, Urdu, or Sanskrit). Middle East track applicants focusing on Arabic must demonstrate intermediate proficiency, while Persian and Hebrew candidates may enroll without prior language experience. South Asia track applicants face no language prerequisites.
