All degree programs mandate proficiency in a foreign language, with the core curriculum emphasizing social sciences and historical studies. For those primarily focused on linguistic or literary pursuits, the University's specialized language departments may better align with your academic goals (including Asian Languages and Literature, French and Italian Studies, Spanish and Portuguese Studies, Scandinavian Studies, Slavic Languages and Literature, Classics, Germanics, and Near Eastern Languages and Civilization). The South Asian Studies MA program provides an interdisciplinary approach to examining the cultures and societies of the region, encompassing India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, and Bhutan. This program blends intensive language training in one or more South Asian languages with comprehensive exploration of both contemporary and classical South Asian cultures. The University boasts an esteemed faculty specializing in various aspects of South Asian studies, delivering an extensive selection of courses on these subjects.
Hold the minimum equivalent of a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from an accredited foreign institution or a Bologna bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 180 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits.
English Proficiency:
The Graduate School is temporarily accepting official test scores for both the Duolingo English Test and the TOEFL ITP Plus For China to assist international students with remote testing options. This policy is currently in effect through the autumn 2021 admission cycle (i.e., students enrolling in autumn 2021).
