The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures provides graduate programs culminating in either a Master of Arts (M.A.) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in East Asian languages and literatures. Candidates can focus their studies on Chinese, Japanese, or Korean literature. Our doctoral graduates maintain an excellent placement record, with most securing tenure-track assistant professor roles at American four-year institutions. Master's degree recipients typically advance to Ph.D. programs or pursue diverse career paths, including college-level teaching positions.
