The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) equips nurses to excel at the pinnacle of clinical care, enabling them to make critical decisions, guide teams, and enhance healthcare systems while driving innovation as nursing leaders. DNP graduates pursue careers as nurse administrators, policy advisors, educators, and chief nursing officers. By earning a DNP, you'll gain the personal, financial, and career advantages of a doctoral degree, along with the prestige and network that come from graduating from Virginia's leading nursing program at UVA. The School of Nursing provides two DNP options: a BSN to DNP track and an MSN to DNP track. Designed for working professionals, the hybrid program requires only monthly in-person sessions, with the remainder of coursework completed online. Starting summer 2023, UVA Nursing alumni will receive guaranteed admission to the DNP program. The BSN to DNP pathway allows nurses with a bachelor's or generalist master's degree to attain the highest level of clinical expertise while securing the personal, financial, and professional rewards of a terminal degree.
