The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program equips nursing professionals with advanced expertise for top-tier clinical and leadership roles beyond foundational training. This doctoral degree focuses on enhancing healthcare outcomes through various approaches: direct patient care, population health management, organizational leadership, and health policy development. DNP graduates qualify for diverse positions, including clinical roles (such as nurse practitioners or midwives) and system-oriented positions (like healthcare administration or policy-making), often combining these responsibilities.
UIC's DNP curriculum builds expertise across three key areas for advanced clinical or systems practice: foundational competencies, specialized skills, and role-specific capabilities. We aim to transform nursing professionals into research-driven, collaborative healthcare providers equipped to address evolving industry demands.
Upon graduating from the DNP program, you will gain the ability to:
Apply specialized nursing expertise at the doctoral level
Bridge research and policy to shape healthcare systems
Adopt research-backed methods to enhance care quality and equity
Utilize strategic leadership to strengthen nursing impact and healthcare results
Establish cross-sector partnerships for novel care solutions
Exercise financial stewardship in nursing operations and planning
Combine technological solutions with clinical expertise to expand care access and quality
