The DNP represents a clinical doctorate, similar to degrees like the PharmD, MD, or DPT, differing from research-oriented PhD programs. This degree aims to cultivate specialized skills for challenging nursing roles in clinical practice, education, and administration, while offering an advanced qualification for practicing professionals. Evolving healthcare needs demand superior clinical knowledge and practical skills to ensure optimal patient care.
According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the DNP should serve as the highest practice degree in nursing. Beyond fulfilling AACN's doctoral practice standards, students study instructional methods, curriculum design, and can opt for teaching practicums to qualify for academic positions.
We aspire to create an outstanding doctoral nursing program that develops healthcare innovators, future educators, and community health leaders across California.
