The University of Utah College of Social Work drives positive change through education and research, influencing policies, services, and interventions. Its mission focuses on reducing human suffering while improving individual, family, community, and worldwide welfare, alongside advocating for social and economic equity. The Master of Social Work Program adopts an advanced generalist approach, fostering teamwork in education, research, and community engagement. With over 300 affiliated social service organizations, students gain hands-on experience applying their expertise. This advanced generalist framework prepares graduates for micro, mezzo, and macro-level practice across diverse populations and systems, aligning with social work's core mission to relieve hardship, improve quality of life, and advance justice. The program allows students to develop specialized competencies in key practice areas such as Aging Services, Child Welfare, Forensic Social Work, International Social Work, Healthcare Social Work, Mental Health Services, and Addiction Treatment.

The Admissions Committee engages in a holistic review process, drawing information from each source
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university is required for admission into all graduate programs at the University of Utah
Only the Advanced Standing MSW Program requires a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree (earned within seven years of the application deadline)
Applicants anticipating a bachelor's degree are eligible to apply when their degree will be awarded before the semester in which the MSW Program begins
