This interdisciplinary program welcomes participation from all genders to explore topics related to women, gender dynamics, and sexuality. Emerging in the 1970s, women's studies has profoundly transformed traditional liberal arts disciplines including history, literature, art, and political science. Feminist research has additionally sparked innovative approaches in established fields like science and business.

The Women's and Gender Studies curriculum provides comprehensive training in feminist thought, varied gender expressions and sexual orientations, historical gender dynamics, socioeconomic policies impacting women, and female creative contributions. Certificate Program courses examine gender equity on both national and international scales, with special attention to the U.S.-Mexico border context. Recognizing knowledge creation beyond academia, the program frequently incorporates perspectives from community advocates, organizations, and residents of the El Paso-Ju√°rez area and broader borderlands region.
