Our graduate program in social studies education empowers you to analyze both historical and modern challenges in the discipline, serving as a basis for creating student-focused, inquiry-driven lesson plans. You'll have the option to specialize in technology, literacy, subject expertise, writing, or special education for gifted students to strengthen your instructional skills. Ideal for current or aspiring secondary school educators, this program readies you for New York State's initial and/or professional teaching certification.
To be eligible for this program, you must have:
1. Majored in or completed 30 credit hours in HISTORY or ONE OF THE SOCIAL SCIENCES (anthropology, economics, geography, political science or sociology), which includes at least 21 credits in history or geography and one economics and one political science course.
2. Met the following history/civilization distribution: 12 credits in U.S., 6 credits in Western civilization, 12 credits in world civilization.
You must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
