The jazz program's primary objective is to cultivate skilled performers and composers who will emerge as future innovators in collaborative music. Jazz students refine their abilities through diverse performance settings including large groups, composition-focused bands, intimate combos, and student-led jam sessions. Our distinguished jazz instructors are active professionals whose expertise covers the full range of the music field, dedicated to helping students achieve technical excellence while nurturing their unique creative voices.
Alongside weekly one-on-one lessons with faculty artists, the curriculum includes jazz and classical theory, music history studies, ensemble participation, and recital performances. The program's vibrant environment is enriched by regular visits from guest artists like Conrad Herwig, complemented by the yearly Longhorn Jazz Festival that brings additional inspiration to our community.
