Western Michigan University's music program provides comprehensive training through diverse course offerings like fundamental music theory, ear training, historical studies, digital media arts, directing, and creative writing. Admission to WMU's music program requires passing the institution's audition and evaluation process, conducted annually in November, January, and February.
Participants must complete a minimum of four credit hours in repeatable ensemble electives, which include participation in the University's prestigious choirs, instrumental groups, and symphony orchestras. The majority of these performance groups require auditions for membership.
WMU's musical ensembles play a vital part in enriching the cultural, academic, and artistic atmosphere across campus. Through domestic and international tours across continents including North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, these groups have further enhanced WMU's esteemed standing in artistic excellence
