The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) program offers undergraduate students a professional, career-oriented education in music. Students can specialize in composition, jazz, piano, strings, theory, voice, or winds and percussion. The B.M. program enables students to learn from distinguished faculty, perform in premier ensembles, and participate in cutting-edge music history and theory courses. About 60% of the curriculum focuses on music, combining high-level training with an institutional emphasis on diversity, community involvement, and entrepreneurial skills. Graduates are equipped for creative musical careers or admission to elite graduate programs. Though demanding, students can pursue the B.M. alongside another major (many combine it with a Bachelor of Music Education by extending their studies by one semester).
Our jazz studies program blends intensive training in classic jazz styles with avant-garde techniques in improvisation and arrangement. Rooted in both historical and modern improvisational traditions, jazz students focus on solo performances and large ensembles while dedicating substantial time to small group collaborations. Throughout their development, students collaborate with top regional musicians and regularly learn from visiting artists, ranging from jazz legends to emerging talents.
