The Bachelor of Arts in History with Secondary Social Studies Education Certification requires completing 122 credit hours. This includes the university's core curriculum, 36 hours in History, 14 hours of foreign language, and 24 hours dedicated to Education courses, field experiences, and student teaching. The program also includes Political Science, Economics, and Geography classes to provide comprehensive Social Studies preparation. Graduates become eligible to take Texas Education Agency's certification exams for teaching Social Studies in grades 7-12 upon fulfilling all degree requirements.
Students must have completed official secondary school transcripts, diplomas, certificates and/or national test examination scores as appropriate for the educational systems in their country. In order to be considered for freshman admission students must have completed secondary school studies equivalent to that of United States high school graduation.
The minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL is 79 on the Internet-based test, 550 on the paper-based test and 213 on the computer-based test. The IELTS can be substituted for TOEFL scores. The minimum acceptable overall score of 6.5 is required for admission. Scores must be sent directly to UT Arlington from the Testing Service to be considered official.
