Aerospace engineering applies fundamental sciences and mathematics to establish the groundwork for designing, developing, producing, testing, and conducting applied research on aerospace vehicles such as aircraft, spacecraft, and missiles. This education also encompasses auxiliary and propulsion systems, including guidance, control, environmental, ramjet, rocket, turbo-jet, and piston engine technologies. In the senior year, the focus shifts to these subjects, culminating in a comprehensive aerospace design project. The program's educational goals are for graduates to pursue entrepreneurship or careers in industry, government, academia, or nongovernmental organizations, while advancing their professional growth through structured activities, professional registration or certification, post-graduate coursework, and/or graduate degrees.
The department provides a Five-Year BS-MS program for eligible students, allowing them to apply up to 9 hours of approved graduate courses toward senior undergraduate electives, which count for both their bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Tennessee.
Applicants must have a completion of high school or college academic work.
