Aerospace engineering is a highly specialized yet remarkably diverse discipline. Professionals in this field engage in a wide array of thrilling endeavors, from achieving hypersonic flight and launching missions to Mars to designing artificial hearts and enhancing future automobiles. Since the era of the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk, we have made tremendous progress. In just a few decades, aviation has evolved from daredevil stunts and barnstorming shows into a safe, rapid, and commonly utilized form of travel. There is strong evidence to suggest that the next half-century will yield even more groundbreaking developments, with UVa playing a significant part. As demand grows for high-speed civil transport and more efficient, high-performance commercial and military aircraft, Aerospace Engineering will continue to present abundant career and advancement prospects. The Aerospace Engineering program offers comprehensive training in fluid dynamics, structures, propulsion, controls, flight dynamics, and design. It allows for flexibility across all potential aerospace applications by focusing on applied science, design, and technology, while building a solid grounding in mathematics and physics. Thanks to their rigorous science and math education, aerospace engineers also pursue roles beyond the conventional aerospace sector. Many find work in oceanography, biotechnology, weather forecasting, energy conservation, and industries such as petrochemicals, nuclear energy, or automotive manufacturing. Furthermore, an aerospace education serves as a strong foundation for careers in business, law, or medicine. Naturally, individuals aspiring to become pilots, whether in the military or commercial sectors, are drawn to the aerospace degree.

Qualification Requirements

High School Transcripts. Typically, the most important factor in the admission evaluation process is demonstrated academic achievement in a challenging secondary school program. The admission committee looks for applicants who have completed the most rigorous academic courses available in their secondary schools and recommends that prospective students should exceed minimum high school graduation requirements. We require an official transcript. The secondary program should include no fewer than 16 academic courses and must include the following courses: English 4 units Mathematics 4 units Foreign Language 2 units Science (from among biology, chemistry, and physics) 2 units (*) Social Studies 1 unit A TOEFL or IELTS score should not be more than two years old. Depending on the school, most admitted graduate students attain a minimum total score of 90 on the internet-based (iBT) TOEFL (including sectional minimums of 22 in speaking, 22 in writing, 23 in reading and 23 in listening).
