Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Environmental Studies through the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences can choose between two academic tracks. The geology track focuses on understanding Earth's physical, chemical, and biological systems. This pathway includes foundational courses in physical and biological sciences, specialized geology coursework applying these principles to Earth sciences, and elective options for specialized geological study. Geology track participants must complete a field geology course, typically offered during summer sessions. Alternatively, the environmental studies track prepares students to examine environmental issues through scientific and societal lenses, incorporating coursework from biological sciences, Earth sciences, and social sciences. This track allows students to tailor their education by selecting environmental studies electives aligned with their interests.
