The Classics Department offers students the opportunity to explore Greek and Latin alongside the broader ancient Mediterranean civilization. Geographically, this encompasses the Mediterranean region and its surrounding areas, while chronologically it spans from prehistoric times through the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Our interdisciplinary collaborations with archaeology specialists in Anthropology and History, as well as medieval scholars in English, History, and Modern Foreign Languages departments, allow us to push these boundaries further. This creates a vast academic landscape where we examine not just ancient languages and texts, but also material culture through archaeological research, social history, cultural analysis, economic studies, and more.
