Northwestern's faculty expertise spans Greek history, comparative literature studies, Roman economic and cultural developments, classical literary theory, Greek mathematical traditions, Latin and Greek language instruction, Indo-European poetic comparisons, Greek political thought, ancient theater, Near Eastern art history, and various reception studies. Visiting scholars currently contribute specialized knowledge on Greek tragedy's connection to material culture and Byzantine history.
Our program features engaging mythology and cultural history lectures alongside intensive seminars exploring classical antiquity's unique aspects and its enduring influence on modern society. We provide a faculty-led summer study program in Greece for academic credit. Additionally, we maintain rigorous ancient Greek and Latin programs catering to majors, minors, and students fulfilling language requirements.

Northwestern accepts results from both the TOEFL and the IELTS.
There is no minimum score required by Northwestern. Competitive applicants demonstrate a high level of English proficiency and often score in the high range on all four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing) of the TOEFL iBT, or receive IELTS band scores in highest three bands on the overall and individual scores (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking).
