This program provides students with an opportunity to delve into the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome, examining their connections with nearby societies in the Near East, Europe, and Africa. Perfect for those seeking historical training, it focuses on the era from the Late Bronze Age (around 1700 BCE) through the early medieval and Byzantine periods (approximately 600 CE). While students can choose to concentrate on specific historical aspects—such as political, social, economic, or cultural studies—or particular regions and timeframes, the curriculum ensures comprehensive education in ancient history. Students must complete eight courses at the 200-level or higher (with some exceptions noted below), including two 300-level courses, along with the Junior Seminar.
