An art history degree provides access to diverse professional paths. Our alumni pursue careers as curators, educators, museum administrators, and academics. The art history department's faculty have earned multiple university honors for teaching excellence and are renowned scholars in their disciplines.
The Bachelor of Arts program offers comprehensive understanding of artistic works and their cultural contexts. Participants cultivate expertise in theoretical approaches, investigative methods, analytical techniques, and critical evaluation. Through this curriculum, learners master the ability to examine and articulate insights about individual artworks, artistic trends, and historical periods.
Faculty members instruct in specialized subjects including Renaissance and Baroque visual arts and structures, European artistic developments from the 18th century to present day, American artistic traditions and architecture, contemporary Chinese art forms, and the evolution of photography and cinema.
International freshman applicants must be high school graduates (students that have the equivalent of a diploma in the United States).
English proficiency is measured through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of at least 550 on the paper based exam or 77 on the internet based TOEFL is required. USC also accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the PTE Academic Test. Students must score at least a 6.5 on the IELTS, or at least a 53 on the PTE.
