The 42-46 credit Bachelor of Arts in Art History equips students for graduate studies, gallery or museum careers, or conservation professions when combined with science and studio coursework. Art History majors must complete one year of college-level foreign language study to earn their B.A. degree, with most graduate programs requiring reading fluency in two foreign languages. This program doesn't lead to teacher certification in art. Students gain expertise in analyzing visual information and contextualizing visual culture within historical frameworks. The curriculum fosters valuable skills in critical analysis, visual interpretation, problem-solving, and effective communication. Through coursework blending global cultural knowledge with observational techniques, descriptive writing, historical investigation, and analytical composition, students prepare for diverse career paths. Alumni can work alongside creative professionals and engage with remarkable collections (artistic, historical, and modern) at cultural institutions, museums, galleries, schools, and businesses. The degree also provides a foundation for pursuing advanced studies in art history or related disciplines.
