Florida State University's Bachelor of Arts in Art History program provides students with comprehensive training in global art history across diverse cultures and historical periods. Our twelve distinguished faculty members deliver lectures and seminars covering art history, visual studies, and museum & cultural heritage studies, with specializations in the Post-Ancient/Medieval World, Modernities/Modernisms, and Visual Cultures of the Americas (VCA). The curriculum emphasizes analytical methods, research techniques, and theoretical frameworks, equipping students with strong visual literacy, historical knowledge, research skills, critical analysis, and writing proficiency. Graduates emerge prepared for various arts-related careers or advanced studies in art history and related disciplines.
To complete the BA degree, majors must meet all university requirements, including completing a 2000-level foreign language course (minimum grade of C). Students can apply one 3-hour museum course (ARH 4941) toward upper-level requirements, except for Museum Studies minors who must complete a 6-hour internship instead.
