The Art History program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of artistic traditions. The curriculum encompasses diverse offerings covering both Western and Non-Western artistic traditions. After completing foundational courses, students can customize their studies by selecting electives that align with their specific interests within these cultural spheres. The department strongly recommends supplementing art history coursework with studio art classes and relevant history courses to develop a well-rounded perspective on art's conceptual, historical, and technical foundations. Graduates with an Art History degree from Santa Barbara City College will be equipped to seamlessly transition into upper-division studies at four-year institutions.
