Students can pursue either a Bachelor of Arts in geological sciences or a Bachelor of Science with specializations in geology, geochemistry, or geobiology. The department also offers minor programs in geological sciences and Earth and planetary sciences.
The BS degree prepares students for advanced studies and careers in earth and environmental sciences, as well as interdisciplinary fields combining earth sciences with life sciences or engineering.
Earth and environmental sciences (EES) combines principles from chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and computer science to examine Earth and planetary systems, including atmospheric, aquatic, terrestrial, geologic, and climate systems. This field investigates planetary formation and evolution from ancient times to the present, applying this knowledge to predict future changes.
The EES department's goal is to combine cutting-edge research with exceptional teaching to deepen our understanding of Earth, its climate, and other planetary bodies while equipping students with skills to thrive in a dynamic global environment.
