Distinguished Achievements
The Geological Sciences Program leverages GW's prime location near the Appalachian Mountains and within a hub of geological professionals. Students gain comprehensive understanding across geological disciplines such as mineral studies, rock formation, earth chemistry, fossil research, sediment analysis, rock layer interpretation, and practical environmental usesall with strong fieldwork focus. Our instructors include active researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey, environmental companies, the Smithsonian, and other D.C.-based organizations. Collaborating with these experts, students receive education extending past traditional lectures. Graduates are ready for diverse careers in environmental studies, earth sciences, STEM teaching, and related fields.
