This program is tailored for students aiming to merge a comprehensive Geosciences education with a year abroad focused on international fieldwork. Participants must complete coursework while residing overseas. Upon fulfilling all requirements, graduates receive a B.S. in International Field Geosciences from both The University of Montana and Germany's University of Potsdam. The outlined degree criteria apply equally to UM and Potsdam students pursuing their UM certification. Students based in Potsdam may fulfill these requirements through approved transfer credits from their home institution, as validated by UM Geosciences academic advisors.

Qualification Requirements

To be considered for undergraduate admission to University of Montana, all international applicants must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting a score on an approved test or by qualifying for an exemption. To be eligible for admission, freshman students must have met/be on track to meet all upper/senior secondary school requirements with the equivalent of a 2.5 U.S. GPA to be automatically considered for admission to undergraduate programs. UM Undergraduate Admissions recognizes the following English proficiency tests. To meet the English proficiency requirement for each admission type, an applicant's test result needs to meet or exceed the posted minimum. TOEFL iBT 70, TOEFL PBT 525, IELTS Academic - 6.0.
