The Geological Sciences Program leverages GW's prime location near the Appalachian Mountains and within a hub of geological professionals, offering students comprehensive training across diverse geological disciplines. The curriculum covers essential areas like mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, paleontology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, and practical environmental applications, with a strong focus on hands-on fieldwork. Faculty members, including active researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey, environmental organizations, the Smithsonian Institution, and other DC-based agencies, bring real-world expertise to the classroom. By collaborating with these experienced professionals, students gain practical knowledge that extends beyond traditional academics. Graduates emerge ready for careers in environmental science, geology, education, and related fields.
