This research-focused Ph.D. program provides diverse specialization options in electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering. Candidates must complete at least 72 credits post-bachelor's degree. Up to 30 credits from an M.S. degree can be applied, with the remainder divided between coursework and dissertation research. Those entering with a relevant M.S. complete 18-24 dissertation credits, while students without may take 18-30 (additional dissertation credits can be taken without counting toward degree requirements). The program mandates a qualifying exam and a comprehensive exam after finishing all coursework. All students must complete two credits of departmental seminars (ELE 601 and 602), which don't count toward the 42-credit requirement beyond the master's level.
