The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering provides a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Electrical & Computer Engineering. To qualify as a PhD candidate, students must hold a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or show exceptional academic performance in all necessary undergraduate coursework for these degrees. The PhD curriculum mandates at least 42 credit hours of advanced study beyond the BS EE or CE requirements, along with passing qualifying and comprehensive exams, plus completing an original doctoral research thesis.

The graduate GPA must be 3.2 or better (on a 4.0 scale) for students with an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Students without an M.S. degree in Electrical engineering or Computer Engineering must have a GPA of 3.2 or better (on a 4.0 scale) and meet our M.S. admission requirements.
