Northeastern's Electrical Engineering PhD program enables students to conduct pioneering research across diverse specializations, including: Signal/image processing, biomedical applications and brain-computer interfaces, pattern recognition, adaptive signal systems, wireless/underwater communications, information theory and coding, robust/distributed control systems, optics/photonics, acoustic/magnetic sensors, RF chip design, digital/mixed-signal ICs, low-power VLSI, power grid modeling (both normal and fault conditions), power electronics components (dc-dc converters, inverters, rectifiers, ac-ac converters), and power electronics modulation techniques.

This research-intensive PhD program features adaptable course requirements and offers both full-time and part-time options. Each student's curriculum is tailored to their dissertation focus and academic background, incorporating a secondary concentration outside their primary research area. This minor can be within electrical/computer engineering or another relevant technical/scientific discipline. The program welcomes applicants holding either a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely aligned field.
