This research-focused Ph.D. program provides diverse specialization options in electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering. Candidates must complete at least 72 credits beyond their bachelor's degree. Up to 30 credits from a master's degree can be applied, with the remaining credits divided between coursework and dissertation research. Those entering with a relevant master's typically complete 18-24 dissertation credits, while students without one may take 18-30 (additional dissertation credits can be taken but won't count toward degree requirements). The program mandates both a qualifying exam and a comprehensive exam after finishing all coursework. All students must complete two credits of departmental seminars (ELE 601 and 602), which don't count toward the 42 credits required post-master's.
