Pursuing a Global Language and Area Studies (GLAS) major with a Classical Studies concentration provides a solid foundation in Greek or Latin, along with expertise in Classical history and culture. The 33-credit GLAS: Classical Studies B.A. program starts with an introductory course, mandates four semesters of language study, includes at least one area studies course, and culminates in a project-based capstone where students demonstrate their mastery of the language and Classical civilization. This flexible major lets students focus more on either language acquisition or area studies content. Structured for efficiency, the program can be finished in just two years for students starting in their junior year—requiring only 11 courses at minimum.
This specialization demands 24 language credits covering both Greek and Latin, with one language studied through advanced levels (15 credits). The remaining 6 credits come from CLA offerings (Greek Myth, Roman Myth, Greek Tragedy, Ancient Comedy) or approved cross-departmental courses.
