The Women's Health/Gender-Related Nurse Practitioner program addresses the primary healthcare requirements of women throughout their lifespan, from adolescence to later years, with a strong emphasis on wellness promotion and maintenance. Our program prioritizes research exploring factors impacting women's lives, including technological advancements, public policy decisions, and socio-cultural and environmental influences. We equip students for collaborative practice, a healthcare approach that values each professional's distinct contributions to patient care. As a future nurse practitioner, you'll learn to deliver holistic, family-focused care to women and their loved ones. Our training emphasizes compassionate care grounded in cultural sensitivity, respect for human dignity, and support for women's autonomy. Through interactive coursework, tailored classes, and exceptional clinical rotations, you'll explore diverse women's health topics such as routine prenatal care, pregnancy management, complementary therapies, reproductive health services, wellness exams, menopausal care, and primary healthcare specific to women's needs.
All applicants must have completed a BSN at an accredited college or university and a statistics course. Generally speaking, competitive applicants have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their BSN program.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
