Two distinct pathways lead to the Master of Science in Nursing:
Traditional Master's: This program structure rests on three foundational components: core curriculum, specialized coursework, and hands-on clinical training. The core curriculum establishes essential knowledge for all graduate-level nurses, while specialty courses enable expertise in specific areas leading to certification. Clinical rotations provide advanced practice experience.
Post-Master's: Designed for nurses holding existing master's degrees, this pathway facilitates advanced specialty certification. While no additional degree is awarded by The Ohio State University, admitted students collaborate with faculty advisors to develop customized study plans addressing certification requirements. The program includes completion of any outstanding coursework from prior graduate studies, specialized classes, and supervised clinical placements. Course waivers for previous graduate work require submission of original course syllabi.
A baccalaureate or professional degree (or equivalent foreign credential) from an accredited college or university, earned by the expected date of entry into your graduate program. A minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in all prior undergraduate and graduate work.
