The Penn MPH Program equips students to become leaders in public health by combining research, education, and service to enhance community health worldwide. Our goal is to foster healthy behaviors, environments, and populations through interdisciplinary teamwork, exceptional teaching, research initiatives, and community involvement. The MPH program strives to build a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff united in addressing public health challenges and advancing wellness for all. Public health fulfills its purpose through coordinated, multidisciplinary approaches targeting physical, mental, and environmental health issues in vulnerable communities. This vision is realized by implementing health promotion strategies and preventive measures aimed at boosting quality of life. All MPH students, regardless of specialization, complete identical Core Course requirements, consisting of 7 foundational courses, two semesters of Capstone Seminar, and Fieldwork Experience. These core courses encompass the 12 Essential Public Health Knowledge areas and 22 MPH Core Competencies mandated by CEPH. A key advantage of our program is students' ability to customize their education through extensive elective options, enabling them to tailor their studies to acquire desired expertise. Students can concentrate their studies in one of four specializations: Generalist, Global Health, Environmental Health, or One Health. For each track, learners choose at least one elective from a curated list of required track electives (RTEs), all designed to teach five or more additional competencies. Students complete five electives total, gaining career-ready skills and knowledge in their chosen field.
