To earn an M.A. in Ancient History, students must complete two years of study, demonstrating satisfactory performance in coursework, passing the Qualifying Examination, and submitting a research paper. The ANCH Graduate Group curriculum requires 20 courses across three years, forming the foundation for developing essential skills in ancient historical studies. This includes understanding both broad historical patterns and key scholarly debates, acquiring proficiency in ancient languages' philological and literary aspects, and developing specialized expertise in areas like epigraphy, numismatics, legal systems, or economic frameworks. Students also gain experience critically analyzing ancient art, architecture, and material culture while becoming familiar with contemporary methodological and theoretical approaches in academic research.
