Georgetown's Master of Arts in Global, International, and Comparative History (MAGIC) enables students to cultivate a historical understanding of our interconnected world while exploring diverse perspectives through an international historical lens. This program equips students with the knowledge to actively participate in global affairs or pursue advanced doctoral studies. Participants gain specialized expertise in a specific world region while examining its connections to broader transnational, comparative, and thematic developments. The curriculum emphasizes comprehensive training in historical research methodologies, foreign language proficiency, and advanced analytical and writing capabilities. Alumni have established successful careers in government, non-governmental organizations, international business, and prestigious doctoral programs in History and related fields.
The MAGIC program maintains a selective, intimate learning environment. Graduate students collaborate directly with faculty advisors and join seminars alongside doctoral candidates. They benefit from cross-disciplinary course offerings across the university, vibrant academic discussions, and access to Washington D.C.'s extensive archives, cultural institutions, and professional networks. MAGIC students may also engage with the Georgetown Institute for Global History through its research seminars and workshops, where visiting scholars present and discuss their latest research through pre-distributed papers during regular academic gatherings.
