The History Department has built an excellent reputation for its exceptional teaching and scholarly achievements. With over three million volumes, five million microforms, and a manuscript collection exceeding 12 million items, the LSU Libraries offer vast resources. The graduate program mandates at least 30 credit hours (often more), including a thesis (24 coursework hours plus 6 thesis research hours) or 36 hours for a non-thesis MA. For both degrees, half the coursework must be at the 7000-level or higher. Graduate faculty may approve 4000-level courses with additional requirements for graduate credit.
