The Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics (BMB) Graduate Group focuses on preparing doctoral students for careers at the intersection of quantitative analysis, molecular mechanisms, and biophysical research. Our mission is to cultivate future innovators, educators, and leaders in biomedical science through rigorous training. This is made possible through our close partnership with the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and our distinguished faculty of 90+ members from four premier institutions: the University of Pennsylvania, the Wistar Institute, and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. At Penn, our faculty represent expertise across multiple schools including Medicine, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Dental Medicine, and Veterinary Medicine.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must have completion of bachelor’s degree.

A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
