The Department of Biology & Biochemistry provides graduate programs in both Biochemistry and Biology, offering M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in each discipline. Our department fosters an environment that enables motivated and innovative students to excel in their studies. With approximately 100 graduate students currently enrolled, our graduates complete their programs equipped with the skills and knowledge to advance in their professional journeys.
Research conducted by faculty and graduate students explores biochemical processes at subcellular and macromolecular scales, spanning diverse scientific fields and methodologies. Key research areas involve investigating macromolecular structures and functions through techniques like nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray crystallography, and spectroscopy. Additional focuses include enzyme mechanisms, genomics, computational molecular biology, biophysics, computer-assisted drug development, cellular signaling, neurochemistry, ion channel studies, RNA's role in evolution, virulence factor analysis, and biotechnological applications.
