The Visual Studies program at the University of Pennsylvania equips students to create groundbreaking links between various disciplines focused on vision and imagery. Learners develop a nuanced understanding of visual perception, along with the challenges and opportunities involved in researching, analyzing, and writing about sight in our modern era. As an inherently cross-disciplinary initiative, Visual Studies collaborates with Philosophy, Psychology, Art History, Fine Arts, and Architecture departments. Participants might also explore related offerings like Cinema Studies or Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies, or venture beyond Arts and Sciences to Annenberg School of Communication and Engineering and Applied Science. Through Sector C, students cultivate artistic abilities across diverse mediums - from traditional 2D/3D formats to digital and time-based creations - with options in both fine arts and architecture specializations.
