Architecture demands a distinctive combination of abilities—creative vision and artistic sensibility harmonized with technical expertise, cultural awareness, and civic duty—all supported by strong communication skills. Drexel's undergraduate architecture program integrates foundational studies in applied and social sciences, humanities, and diverse professional architecture courses to equip students for careers in architecture and allied professions. Central to this program are design studios, where students synthesize knowledge from these disciplines to tackle meaningful design challenges.
Drexel Westphal's Architecture department provides two specialized degree paths for aspiring architects:
Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.): This NAAB-accredited professional degree blends full-time and part-time study with substantial early practical experience, paving the way to architectural licensure
The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) at Drexel Westphal cultivates thorough architectural understanding alongside core professional competencies and introductory knowledge of related disciplines. This NAAB-accredited program is ideal for students pursuing a professional undergraduate degree that facilitates licensure and provides early hands-on practice. Although the B.Arch. doesn't participate in Drexel's co-op program, students gain superior professional experience, often fulfilling most Architectural Experience Program (AXP) requirements before graduation. Available in two formats (the 24 Option and Part-Time Evening Option), the B.Arch. typically takes six to seven years to complete. Enrolled students may opt for the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL), enabling them to complete the Architectural Registration Examination (ARE) and obtain professional licensure upon graduation.
