The University of Oklahoma has offered anthropology courses since 1905, with the department formally established in 1927. Distinguished scholars such as Morris Opler and Robert Bell helped position the department at the forefront of Native North American studies. While our primary research focuses on North America's southwest, southeast, and plains regions, we've also cultivated expertise in Latin American studies. Our academic programs include Master's degrees in anthropology, applied linguistic anthropology, and socio-cultural anthropology, along with a doctoral program in anthropology. The curriculum provides comprehensive education across anthropology's four core areas: sociocultural studies, archaeology, biological anthropology, and linguistics.
