The Behavioral Sciences concentration focuses on studying health determinants linked to preventing and managing illnesses and disabilities across diverse and at-risk populations. This program prioritizes collaborative work with communities through interdisciplinary teams to examine and create initiatives targeting the wide-ranging social and environmental elements affecting health behaviors and outcomes. The PhD curriculum in Public Health Sciences with a behavioral sciences specialization balances qualitative and quantitative approaches, along with applying and evaluating theories to comprehend how social and cultural dynamics shape health-related actions.
This Ph.D. program aims to develop researchers and practitioners equipped to tackle modern public health challenges affecting individuals, communities, and entire populations.
Students cultivate comprehensive public health expertise: mastering research communication for varied audiences, academic publishing, teaching in higher education, and upholding ethical principles in all professional settings. While full-time students may finish degree requirements in 4 years, most typically complete the program within 5 years based on their dissertation research scope. Graduates pursue careers in academia, lead extensive public health research initiatives, or work in governmental and healthcare organizations.
