To earn the degree, students must complete 72 credits in total, with at least 54 credits coming from graded courses. This includes taking either PLAD 7090 (Research Methods in Political Science) or PLPT 5010 (The Nature of Political Inquiry), along with specific requirements for one major and one minor field. For American Politics majors, the required courses are PLAP 7000 (American Political Development), PLAP 7010 (American Politics Institutions), and PLAP 7110 (American Political Behavior). Minors in this field must take two of these three courses. In Political Theory, minors need to complete PLPT 7000 (Introduction to Political Theory) plus two additional courses that involve term papers, chosen from PLPT 5010 (Foundations of Political Inquiry) and other PLPT courses at the 7000 or 8000 level.
