In political science, formal models serve as simplified representations of political institutions and decision-making processes, helping to highlight essential logical patterns and causal relationships. Effective modeling demands expertise in technical disciplines like game theory, along with domain-specific knowledge to accurately depict particular scenarios.
Established in 2007 by faculty, the Models & Politics subfield combines rigorous training in formal modeling with cutting-edge political science research. This program caters to students aiming to incorporate formal modeling extensively in their studies of American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, or Political Theory, as well as those pursuing careers as specialized modelers.
