The Political Science PhD program provides a vibrant, collaborative setting for doctoral education. With a competitive admission process, the program accepts approximately six fully-funded students annually. Boston University's Political Science Graduate Faculty represents a diverse group of scholars spanning multiple departments and schools, while students can also access the rich academic resources throughout the Boston region. Applicants must hold either a bachelor's or master's degree. Program Objectives
Create and justify an innovative, meaningful addition to political science scholarship.
Achieve comprehensive knowledge by attaining basic proficiency in five out of six political science subfields (American government, public administration, comparative government, global relations, political philosophy, and research methods) along with advanced expertise in two specialized areas.
Engage with the scholarly community through participation in local seminars, conference presentations, and academic publications.
Develop competency to instruct undergraduate political science courses.
