The Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration is an intensive, research-focused program tailored to equip graduates for careers in academia and scholarly research. This curriculum encompasses foundational courses across all business fields, alongside specialized exploration of financial theory and practical applications. Finance track students will pursue an economics minor and undertake a mathematical research methods series. Additionally, participants will gain teaching experience by instructing undergraduate classes, developing pedagogical skills. Upon completion, graduates will be prepared for professorial roles at research universities and educational institutions worldwide.
The Belk College of Business launched its Business Administration Ph.D. program in 2006, making UNC Charlotte one of just three North Carolina universities providing business degrees at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels - a distinction shared only with Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill.
Currently focusing on finance as its primary concentration, the Business Administration Ph.D. program may expand to include additional specializations as it develops. Instruction is provided by faculty from the Belk College's Finance and Economics departments, along with professors from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences' Mathematics department.
